Donald calls for legalised cheating

Allan Donald would like to see ball tampering “preparing” legalised by the ICC. Proper fast bowlers are now an endangered species, so they should be allowed to do whatever they want with the ball to help level the playing field.

The Ashes: RavBopping

Apparantly, four innings are ample time in which to condemn a young player who had previously scored 3 consecutive Test centuries. It is acceptable to do this because those centuries were “only” scored against the West Indies.

The Ashes: Whither Ian Bell?

Had you considered that Ian Bell might actually score some runs against Australia when he replaces the “recently injured” Kevin Pietersen at Edgbaston?

The Ashes: Journalists and Mark Ramprakash

For all those people who are tired of the press insisting that Steve Harmison, Ian Bell or whoever be recalled to the England team, get this: All of the mainstream press are currently running “who will replace KP” type articles. At least three of them have included the name Mark Ramprakash.

The Ashes: Flimsy Aussie excuses

With Australia now trailing in the Ashes, the flimsy excuses have started to show their acne-ridden faces. First we had all the fuss over umpiring decisions and “dirty cheat” Andrew Strauss, and now Shane Watson reveals that it is all because Cricket Australia have imposed a sledging ban on the squad.

The Ashes: Kevin Pietersen has surgery

On his achilles that is, before all you KP-haters out there get too excited. This means that KP will miss the rest of the Ashes. Frankly, we could see this coming with all the inevitability of a tax-hike. Four injections to limp through five days of cricket is too much.

The Ashes: England ready to go Back to the Future

Both Pietersen and Flintoff are to see specialists regarding their respective injuries before a decision is made about their participation in the 3rd Test at Edgbaston. Pietersen limped his way around Lord’s for five days, while Flintoff charged in regardless as if he were the entire Light Brigade encompassed within one individual.

Ashes 2nd Test, day 5: Flintoff ends Lord’s record

Played 18, drawn 9, lost 9. This is England’s record against Australia at Lord’s from 1938 until this morning. Their last Ashes victory there, in 1934, was the only time England achieved the feat in the whole of the 20th Century.

The Ashes: Lord’s, one day to go

Four days gone. 322 Overs. 1951 deliveries. 1264 runs scored. 31 wickets taken. One day to go.

Book review: Harold Larwood

Was Harold Larwood the fastest bowler that cricket has seen? Perhaps it is better if the uncertainty remains, and the legend is undiminished. Whatever, Harold Larwood was seriously fast, and far more so than any other bowler of his era.
