In his dodgy dossier, Justin Langer talks about the English looking for somewhere to point the finger when things go wrong. Now, we have our Headingley scapegoats.
There’s a “big” story unfolding at the Telegraph about a leaked dossier, apparantly from “Justin Langer who captains Somerset”, giving the Aussies the inside track on how to beat England. According to the accompanying report, it will shock English cricket followers.

Well, it didn’t take long. Here is Scyld Berry calling for Mark Ramprakash to be called up for the Oval in a desparate, end of the world bid to win the Ashes. Now, I have the greatest respect for Ramps, but Berry is still living in the 1920s if he thinks that recalling someone after 8 years out of the team is the way to go.
This (impending) defeat will rank as highly as, if not higher than, any of England’s regular ’90s maulings. They have been truly embarrassing, like senile old men who have soiled themselves, shuffling about aimlessly, muttering incomprehensibly.
Steve Harmison was dropped from the England team because he regularly bowls pies. His stock delivery is the long-hop. This was in March 2008 during the tour of New Zealand. It should have been the end of his Test career.
Matt Prior has said that he thinks England can still win the 4th Test as long as they dominate the first session today. This shows the flaw in England’s strategy – they should be aiming to dominate every session, not just the ones after they have given up a virtually insurmountable advantage.

England have spent the previous three Tests grafting hard and building up their 1-0 advantage. Today they flushed it efficiently down the toilet with three hours of the most inept cricket you will ever have the displeasure to witness.
England fell apart today quicker than my best DIY efforts. You don’t score 102 in the first innings and win the match every week, so we can probably start looking towards the Oval, unless a minor miracle occurs.
England’s batting always seemed to be punching above it’s weight througout this series so far, with the lower order providing plenty of important runs. Today, having won the toss, their batting completely combusted under pressure from some fine Australian bowling in swinging conditions.
So, the knee has finally hoisted the white flag and said enough is enough. Flintoff has not recovered in time for the Headingley Test, which starts this morning, and a nation will doubtless be in morning, whilst another one quietly starts to fancy it’s chances with the news that Matt Prior may be out with an injury.
