Australia call for 12th man
According to a report from Sky Sports today, Cricket Australia have requested that the tourists be allowed to field 12 players during their first class warm-up matches against Sussex and England Lions, allowing them to replace a batsmen with a bowler when they are in the field.
This after the counties offered sundry Australians the chance to get their eye in before the tour began.
Australians – open your door to them and they’ll repay you by putting their feet on the seats and helping themselves to your last jammy-dodger.
If I were the ECB, I would tear up their request into tiny pieces and return it to Cricket Australia without putting a stamp on it.
I am not the ECB, so expect the request to be granted and Giles Clarke to volunteer his butler to fill the resultingly vacant 12th man role. He has eighteen of them anyway.
