Broad and Hughes benefit from County game
Andrew Flintoff’s bowling has seen rather more of the boundary than he would have liked so far in the IPL. In the three matches played by the Chennai Super Kings, he has totalled 2-105 at an economy rate of 9.54 – among the highest for any team.
Back in the useless old County Championship, James Anderson has taken 8-102 and counting against Sussex, and Stuart Broad ripped out the Worcestershire top order to finish with 5-79, alongside a handy innings of 60.
Come the 1st Test against West Indies at Lords on May 6th, which competition will provide the best preparation? Broad’s decision to stay in England in order to prepare for the International summer seems ever more vindicated.
Meanwhile, a century on his Middlesex debut for Philip Hughes suggests that all the fuss made about his Ashes warm-up may be irrelevant after all. There may even be a plus, as it will give Team England a chance to have an extended look at him before the tests start later this summer.
