Bucknor wants umpires to retain control
Steve Bucknor, having just stood in his final test match, has stated his preference that umpires, and not players, should decide whether to call for a review by the 3rd umpire. There is some sense in this because, as Bucknor points out
when a team has used its two referrals, that is when they have failed twice, they have no more.
Either way, if it helps us to avoid howlers such as below, it can only be a good thing.
Of course, there is still the possibility of mistakes, but with some fine-tuning to the system including clarification on available technology and a time-limit for making a decision, a satisfactory method should be possible.
