England need a win: 4th Test

The 4th Test starts this afternoon, with England urgently needing a win to level the series and give themselves a chance of winning it.  This tour has proved more difficult for the tourists than was expected, and credit to the West Indies for the improvement they have shown.

However, perhaps we overestimate the quality of the current England team.  Results in recent series have not been good, and the behind-the-scenes upheaval is bound to have an effect on morale.  In some respects, the team is still living on the 2005 Ashes success despite it being four years ago.  Four years is an age in terms of a cricket team – of the Australian team currently in action against South Africa, only Ponting, Clarke and Katich took part in that series.

Both Flintoff and Prior are missing from this test, with Tim Ambrose set to fill the wicketkeeping position.  He, and whoever plays in place of Flintoff, will need to hit the ground running.
