England v West Indies one day international series
Knowing as we did that West Indies’ players weren’t too keen on being here, it is no surprise that England took the ODI series 2-0.
And we didn’t learn much about the players that we didn’t already know. Matt Prior played his highest innings in an ODI thus far, and Paul Collingwood put in a decent all-round performance in the 2nd match. Eoin Morgan had limited chances to show what he can do, and may have to make way for Pietersen in the World T20 next month.
When we win so comfortably, it is all very easy to say “what was the point of this series”, but at the very least it does inject some much needed confidence into the team. Come the 8th July, we won’t be focused on what an easy time England had against West Indies, the whole country will be busy telling itself that the last two tests were won convincingly, and the Aussies should be cowed before our mighty cricketers.
And so we move onto the World Twenty20. England are unlikely to win the tournament, but this is their chance to finally get to grips with the format by settling upon a consistent lineup and approach.
