England’s Twenty20 selection becomes clearer
England’s second warmup game is underway, and there is still no sign of Rob Key or Graham Napier.
Rob Key was captain of Kent last season as they reached the Twenty20 Cup final. He was much-touted to be captain in this tournament. It now looks as though he is no more than a reserve.
Graham Napier scored the most explosive Twenty20 hundred by any English player last season. Ever. He is a more than handy bowler at this level.
Adil Rashid barely figures in Twenty20 matches for Yorkshire, yet England presumably see him as their main reserve bowler. Out of the 13 playing today, he is the most likely to miss out, so the team against Holland will likely be:
- Bopara
- Wright
- Pietersen
- Collingwood
- Morgan or Shah (we would pick Morgan for his fielding and inventiveness)
- Mascarenhas
- Foster
- Broad
- Swann
- Anderson
- Sidebottom
