Flintoff out of World Twenty20
We all knew this several weeks ago really, but now it has been confirmed that Adil Rashid will take Freddie’s place in the England squad.
This means that Flintoff has six weeks to get himself ready for the Ashes, with the possibility of four championship games for Lancashire to hone his match fitness.
Assuming he doesn’t get injured again, which he probably most assuredly will.
It does give England another chance to look at Rashid and see what he can do, although previously he has struggled to get a game.
A Flintoff free Ashes would increase the likelihood of England fielding two spinners against Australia, with Monty Panesar 2nd in line behind Graeme Swann.
But if Rashid were to perform heroics in the T20, it might give him an outside chance of breaking into the test side.
This is unlikely though, and he should probably concentrate on winning a place on the winter tour to South Africa.
