Hauritz suffers at Hove

Whilst Brett Lee and Stuart Clark both took 3 wickets, Nathan Hauritz endured a rough time at the hand of the Sussex batting lineup, as they plundered 98 runs from his 18 wicketless overs.

Whilst not quite in the Bryce McGain league, this represents a big problem for Australia, as they may be forced to rely on their part-time options at Cardiff where the wicket will be helpful to spinners.  Simon Katich returned far more respectable figures of 1-32 from 8 overs.

England will be looking on in interest as they weigh up whether to play two spinners in the 1st test.  As I have said before, I think they should, using Adil Rashid as a foil to Graeme Swann.

Sussex scored runs consistently down the order as they reached a decent total of 311, only 38 runs less than Australia’s declared 1st innings total of 349/7.  It will be interesting to see if the Australian top order can score more runs second time around.
