Indian defeat increases England’s chances
India’s surprise defeat yesterday at the hand of West Indies has blown group E wide open. Most would have favoured India and South Africa to reach the semi-finals reasonably comfortably, but now India suddenly look vulnerable.
England would no doubt fancy their chances against West Indies, having had the upper hand in their numerous recent encounters.
If South Africa were to win all three fixtures in this group, England could even afford a narrow defeat to India and still progress on the basis of net run-rate. Of course they will not see it this way, but it does increase their chances.
