IPL innovation adds to the tedium
The latest IPL innovation, announced today, is to have a break of 7 ½ minutes after ten overs of every innings. Apparantly this is a “tactical time out”, or as we laymen would refer to it “blatant TV money time out”.
The fact is, with 20 overs, tactics are less of an issue:
Batsman: “Score as many runs as you can”
Bowler: “Save as many runs as you can”
Maybe the IPL should extend this idea to, for instance, a 7 ½ day tactical time out. That way we can have more time to recover from all the flashing lights and the IPL can rake in even more of advertisers money. Or, even more radically, why not have a 7 ½ minute break for cricket in amongst 3 hours of adverts?
