Mark Robinson wastes his breath

Sussex coach Mark Robinson knows a few things about getting the best out of players.  Sussex won the Twenty20 Cup and the Pro40 this season, and were runners-up in the FP Trophy.  So when he publicly states that his team are having to play so much cricket during the summer that they can’t train properly, you would think that the ECB would pay attention.  They won’t.

Here’s what Robinson had to say:

It is horrendous. That is the biggest problem with English cricket. We play too much. We don’t get much chance to practice specific skills. We had problems against the swinging ball this year, so you want to practice that and take that out. But it is hard because you are constantly playing.

Giles Clarke - cricket's Monty Burns

It will require a full on revolt before Giles Clarke is moved to action.  The only thing he is interested in is revenue.  And possibly taking lollipops from toddlers.

Here is the ECB’s secret 5-step plan, entitled “Make the nasty people go away”, which I found at the bus stop this morning:

  1. Convene a working party.  A sure-fire delaying tactic.
  2. Make noises about reducing the number of first class counties.  Sure to create a counter-rebellion among county chairmen and members.
  3. Post a mackerel through the letterbox of the PCA offices.
  4. Threaten to phone Allen Stanford
  5. Put our fingers in our ears and chant “increased revenue from 50-over matches” over and over again
