Meanwhile, elsewhere…
Bored of the Ashes already? There are some other things going on in the cricket world you know. Here is a summary:
Sri Lanka managed to beat Pakistan against the odds in their 1st Test at Galle. Rangana Herath took 4-15 on the fourth morning as Pakistan imploded chasing a target of just 168, losing by 50 runs. The consolation was the impressive debut of Mohammad Aamer, their (possibly) teenage left-arm quick, who also made an impact in the World T20.
West Indies are threatening a boycott of their series against Bangladesh. These days it seems like hardly a series goes by without this problem raises it’s head. Certainly, there was much speculation during their series against England recently, with contract negotiations remaining unresolved. At least we can say that there is a cricket board less competent than the ECB.
England’s women achieved a comprehensive victory over Australia in the ODI series, 4-0 with the 5th match ruined by the elements. Their single Ashes test is upcoming.
New Zealand welcomed Shane Bond back into their ODI squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka after he severed his ties with the ICL.
