Somerset’s perfectly paced innings

They lost their tenth wicket off the final ball.  It takes a lot of hard work and planning to achieve such perfection in an innings.  Somerset were hoping to qualify for the Super 8 by beating Trinidad & Tobago.  Instead their net run rate took an antelope-in-the-lion-enclosure type mauling, and they’ll need a favour to get through.

T&T had three spinners and, with the traditional county dislike of embarrasing puny twirlers by scoring runs off them, that was the end of that.  Actually, T&T bowled very well, but we won’t let that get in the way of taking a swipe at county cricket.  After all, Somerset’s 106 was their 2nd lowest total in T20 history so at least some of it must be their own fault.

Now Somerset will need T&T to either beat Deccan or lose to them by an even more embarrasing margin.  Having seen three matches involving counties, the early conclusion to draw is that the county bowling is solid without being explosive, but the batting is pretty limp.  Sussex have a chance to change my mind when they play Diamond Eagles tomorrow, and they should at least have Mike Yardy and Luke Wright back.
