Sussex don’t play IPL team, lose

New South Wales Blues have the luxury of calling on a full Australian international bowling attack in the CLT20.  It might win them the tournament.  Sussex don’t.  In order to win, therefore, Sussex needed their two Asian stars, Yasir Arafat and Piyush Chawla, to perform.  They didn’t.

Chawla took some clatter from Moises Henriques, dropped a catch and was out first ball. Arafat bowled reasonably, then ran out Joe Gatting and was cleaned bowled himself from the very next delivery.

Sussex are of course penalised by not being able to play against one of the IPL teams, and can thus feel hard done by.

In all seriousness, it didn’t help Sussex that they were missing there strongest batsmen – Murray Goodwin and Matt Prior are not in the squad and Mike Yardy and Luke Wright both fell ill before the match.

Hopefully they will put in a better batting performance against Diamond Eagles in the group shootout.
