Umpires get Hot Spot for referrals
An announcement from the ICC that the infra-red Hot Spot system will be available for the 3rd Umpire to use in referral decisions during the 2nd and 3rd tests between South Africa and Australia is welcome – but does this go far enough? As discussed before on this site, TV viewers have far more tools at their disposal to make a judgement on a decision than the match officials, a situation that is unsatisfactory.
This is a step in the right direction, but with little time remaining before the end of the trial, it may be a case of too little, too late for the ICC.
