World Twenty20 thoughts
The World T20 has left everyone with a warm, fuzzy glow. It was fun, exciting and unpredictable.
- England got beaten by the Dutch minnows
- Australia only played (and lost) two matches
- Ireland upset Bangladesh (although so many people predicted this it didn’t really feel like an upset)
- India didn’t even reach the semi-final
- England managed to beat India, then got knocked out by West Indies
- Pakistan won the thing despite (because of?) all the domestic turmoil of late
Then again, there were some things about it that were very predictable.
- South Africa looked invincible until their traditional semi-final choke
- Pakistan were enigmatic and scintillating
- England talked a good game but weren’t really good enough
- Everyone was delighted when Australia were knocked out
- Everyone was delighted when South Africa were knocked out
Pakistan were worthy winners in many ways, and congratulations to them.
Quite how the cricket world will manage to last a whole 10 months until the next ICC World Twenty20 I am not sure.
