It’s Central Contract Awards time, and the big “news” is that Steve Harmison and Monty Panesar have missed out altogether. Actually, this shouldn’t be much of a surprise – between them they only played 3 Tests this summer.

Two reports, from the Telegraph and Sky Sports suggest that Adil Rashid is due to be included in England’s pre-pre-pre Ashes squad announced Monday.

To be honest, this was probably as far as they were expected to get. That they managed to bounce back from the humiliation against Holland was creditable, and the victory over India was a feather in their cap.

We all knew this several weeks ago really, but now it has been confirmed that Adil Rashid will take Freddie’s place
in the England squad.
This means that Flintoff has six weeks to get himself ready for the Ashes, with the possibility of four championship games for Lancashire to hone his match fitness.

Andrew Flintoff’s injury has opened up another selection conundrum over who to replace him with. It all depends on whether the selectors prefer to go with 4 bowlers or 5, and how adventurous they are prepared to be.
