It looks increasingly possible that Lancashire are the favourites to lift the County Championship this season. They’ve won five out of six so far, and it would be six out of six were it not for the batting megalith that is Monty Panesar. This is a pretty good record for a county that is usually out of the running every year when rain wipes out half of their schedule.

I wasn’t there, I didn’t see it on TV. So what to make of the abandonment on Tuesday due to waterlogged run-ups? Who was to blame, the authorities at Old Trafford, or the teams and umpires? Reading the reports in the press, it is hard to say for sure, blame being apportioned to either one or the other.
