It was nice while it lasted. For a couple of short weeks, one day internationals were exciting again. The World Cup had us interested, India was rapt, Ireland was thrilled, England was…not as surprised as they would have liked to have been. Then came Australia’s ongoing tour of Bangladesh, and all that hard work has been undone.

The news from Phillip Hughes on his personal Twitter account is that he will not be playing in the 3rd Test, presumably with Shane Watson taking his place.

David Wigley has apparantly had the defining say in the course of the Ashes series. A ridiculous story on the Telegraph website goes on to say that Wigley “reprised the Stephen Harmison role” by aiming the ball at various outfielders. Or that he got Phil Hughes out, I don’t recall.

With Australia now trailing in the Ashes, the flimsy excuses have started to show their acne-ridden faces. First we had all the fuss over umpiring decisions and “dirty cheat” Andrew Strauss, and now Shane Watson reveals that it is all because Cricket Australia have imposed a sledging ban on the squad.

This isn’t exactly news, but it’s being posted here to point out the inevitability of it all. Yes, Shane Watson has hurt his knee and won’t play in the Australian’s first tour match against Sussex.
