Ashes back on free TV in 2013

The government has decreed that the Ashes should be restored to the Grade A list of showpiece events, meaning that it should be broadcast on free-to-air TV in 2013.

If you were watching Cape Cobras play Otago Volts this afternoon in the Champions League T20, you would have seen something outstanding. Early in the Volts innings, the commentary team were suddenly interviewing a miked-up umpire Daryl Harper between deliveries.

Some cricket on free-to-air TV!

No, this is not a windup. British Eurosport are to broadcast the inaugural Twenty20 Champions League. This will be the first cricket on free-to-air TV since bread first came sliced. Giles Clarke is said to be spitting feathers at the thought of all those people watching for nothing.
